After six weeks, my first ever show ‘Skinny Decaf Latte’ has finally been taken down. It was successful from a financial point of view, having sold a fair few pieces, but the main reason for me doing it was for my confidence – something that has been boosted tenfold! We drove up to Robo Cog yesterday to see it before it came down, and I realised it was the first time I’d actually looked at it since it went up… every time I’ve been in for lunch, I’ve sat outside or with my back to it, pretending it wasn’t there! Thanks so much to Jet, Hos and Winny at Robo Cog for giving up their wall space for free, and for pushing me to put on a show. I’d highly recommend their coffee and food – 249 Riley St, Surry Hills, 2010. A list of works from the show that didn’t sell will follow soon.

So, finally, Jones has an exhibition of his work. After much stress about what to put on, I think he’s finally there. All that is left to do is hang the pictures! Opening drinks have sadly been cancelled because of council red tape, but the work will be up for a month from 5th August 2011, at RoboCog on Riley St, Surry Hills. Here’s the blurb that will accompany his work:

“I’ve been making marks with pencils since the age of three, and ever since then, I’ve been trying to draw more realistic people. Alas, thirty seven years later, I think it’s clear that my understanding of human anatomy is sadly lacking. My mistake is likely rooted in starting with the tiny details and not the bigger picture – nostrils and noses are always first, leading to rather ugly and ill proportioned individuals, usually found hiding behind large tables, meaning I don’t have to draw their legs. My doodling is now usually undertaken whilst drinking a skinny decaf latte, and often inspired by earwigging on other peoples conversations. Some of these illustrations were originally scrawled roughly in my red sketchbook here at RoboCog.”

Our latest art acquisition is ‘I’m Just A Squid’ by Tanya Jade (aka Misery). The back tells us it’s put together with ‘Acrylic, Spraypaint and Indian Ink, and it was purchased at Lo-Fi Collective last week. Tanya is from New Zealand, and some of her amazing work can be seen here:

We have a new camera in our extensive collection! It’s a splendid Kodak Brownie Flash II, which takes a massive roll of film that alas can no longer be purchased at the camera store, but I’m sure we’ll be able to fashion something to fit it. The viewfinder is on the top, and can only be viewed at arms length whilst held down low. It gives a super crisp looking image to the photographer before he or she clicks the shutter, and there’s a second viewfinder on the side, for landscape shots! Our friends Jess, Tim and Ruby the dog bought it for us – thanks guys, you rock!
